7 Things Youre Doing Wrong With Intimate Care

Your intimate parts are very delicate and obviously, you want to take care of them well. But we do a lot of things after listening to friends or getting influenced by advertisements.

Here are some of the most common mistakes that all of us make when it comes to the care of our intimate region:

1. Cleaning:

The vagina is self cleaning, that’s why you face discharge from it. It has good bacteria which fight off infections and they’re quite efficient at their job. This is why it’s important to remember not to go overboard with the cleaning. Don’t douche or clean the vaginal canal from the inside as this could harm your body internally. Focus on cleaning the labia or folds of the vagina rather than the inside. Also remember not to clean it too often as this could strip away all the good bacteria, leaving you prone to contracting UTIs.

2. Scenting:

Your vagina isn’t supposed to smell like oranges and lemons, so don’t try so hard to make it. A lot of the scented soaps in the market are quite harsh and rich in many chemicals. This will do more harm to your vagina than good. It’ll kill the good bacteria in the region. These soaps also have a tendency of affecting the pH balance of the vagina which could lead to yeast infections and the like. You might also face allergic reactions to some of the chemicals present in the scented and synthetic soaps.

3. Shaving:

A lot of us remove our pubic hair because we feel and think that it’s cleaner that way. It’s a very common error in judgement made by many people. You should never get rid of all the hair off your vagina because this hair actually helps protect your privates from infections and bacteria. It also acts as a cushion between the folds of your vagina and between your privates and the external environment, which helps to protect your skin from rashes and other irritations. Removing the hair could cause injury and trauma to the skin around this area which is delicate in nature.

4. Washing:

You need to be careful with what you use when washing your private parts. A lot of us tend to reuse our towels and washcloths, which is perfectly okay, but if they’re left damp, they tend to cultivate bacteria and mould. After a bath, keep your towel out to dry rather than putting it back inside the humid bathroom. Also remember to use fresh towels often. Keeping yourself dry down there is beneficial as it prevents the breeding of germs, so don’t stay in the bath too long or keep your swimsuits on for too long. It’s also worth keeping in mind that while washing yourself down there, you’re careful and not too rough as it could cause chafing.

5. Lube:

In the beat of the moment, you may try to use anything you can get your hands on, for the purpose of lubrication. This could do a lot of damage to your vagina as these objects could contain substances which will adversely affect your body. Lube is made specifically for the purpose of internal lubrication and has been tested to ensure that it’s safe for use. Other items such as petroleum jelly may harm your skin, cause rashes or irritation, and lead to the cultivation of bacteria. Even saliva harms the vaginal walls because of certain enzymes present it. It is necessary to be responsible when it comes to such intimate parts of your body.

6. Underwear:

While wearing underwear during the day is always advisable, it could be a mistake wearing it the entire night, while you sleep. This is because, if your underwear does not absorb moisture thoroughly and efficiently, it will become a breeding ground for bacteria. Again, a dry environment is healthier for your intimate regions. If you must wear underwear, ensure that it’s of a breathable material like cotton.

7. Peeing:

One of the ways in which the vagina cleans itself is through urination. Peeing helps flush out any foreign agents that may be in there. Peeing after sex is especially advisable as it’ll help wash out any lube or other unwanted stuff such as bacteria that’s in there but shouldn’t be. If this bacteria is left inside, it could lead to a UTI which won’t be a pleasant experience.

Keeping these in mind could go a long way in preventing a urinary tract infection, yeast infection, or any other kind of imbalance and irritation of your intimate parts.
