Novel CORONAVIRUS also known as COVID-19 has infected over 308,000 people and claimed 13,000 lives so far.
The outbreak started in China, but has spread across countries like Germany, Spain, Italy, India and  many more.

What is a coronavirus?

Coronaviruses are common in animals of all kinds, and they sometimes can evolve into forms that can infect humans. The other coronaviruses that have jumped to humans, were the SARS outbreak in 2002 and the MERS outbreak in 2012.

The novel coronavirus was detected in Wuhan, China. It was  first reported to the WHO Country Office in China on 31 December 2019. Thus it was named COVID-19 (coronavirus december 19)
It affects the respiratory systems of the human body and causes symptoms similar to common cold & flu . So far, in most affected counties, around 20 percent of  confirmed cases have been classed as severe or critical.

Most deaths due to coronavirus have happened due to underlying health issues like high blood pressure heart problems and diabetes.
The WHO , announced COVID – 19 as a pandemic on the 11th March 2020

When it originated in China, the country took aggressive action shutting down transportation and suspending public gatherings. Sick people were isolated and their contacts were tracked as a precaution. The number of new infections reported in China recently have declined as observed by WHO.The new epicentre of the virus now is EUROPE and cases in India are on the rise.

COVID-19 is an easily-transmitted illness that kills a small percentage of the people it infects, but can still cause a lot of deaths, precisely because so many people get sick.

It is therefore important to follow the basic steps of hygiene by washing hands every hour for 20 seconds, ensuring to cover your mouth while coughing & sneezing and most of all practise social distancing so that you stop the chain of transmission
