In the present times, with the immense joy of your little one coming home, there’s also a sense of fear in all the parents due to the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19. Since the immune system in newborns is not fully developed, it would be difficult for them to fight the virus if infected. Therefore, it is very important to protect them during this pandemic by taking all the precautions.

Here are a few tips to follow to keep your newborn safe:

1. Make sure that the people who come in contact with the baby or the ones taking care of the baby are fully vaccinated.

2. Wash your hands thoroughly and follow good breastfeeding hygiene before breastfeeding your baby.

3. In case of any COVID-19 like symptoms or illness limit your contact with your baby.

4. Wear a mask at all times if you feel sick and avoid coming in contact with the baby.

5. Avoid sick people to come in contact with your baby

6. Clean the surfaces, toys, and other objects that people majorly come in contact with frequently.

7. Avoid touching your baby’s eyes, nose and mouth without washing your hands.

8. Do not make your children ( below 5 years) wear masks due to the risk of hypoxia.

9. Limit the visitors at your place to reduce contact with the baby. Visitors may unknowingly increase the risk of COVID-19 infection to you and your baby.

10. Avoid taking your baby out as much as possible to limit their contact with others.

11. Do not miss the regular check-ups and vaccinations for your baby.

12. Lastly, know the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 in your babies.

A few COVID-19 signs in babies include fever, diarrhea, runny nose, poor feeding, cough, vomiting, trouble in breathing, and fatigue.
