Taking care of your baby’s sensitive skin is a very delicate matter. Since the immune system of the newborn is still developing it becomes extremely important to pay attention to the smallest of details for their care.

If you are a new parent and you are wondering, how to bathe your newborn?

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Any time of the day is good to have a warm relaxing bath. But make sure you choose a time when the baby isn’t hungry or has just fed. Bathe your baby daily or a minimum of 3 times a week for maintaining good skin health. Choose a small plastic tub for bathing and carry out the procedure in a peaceful spot.
  • Pay special attention to vital areas like eyes, ears, and genitals. For eyes and ears use a soft cloth dipped in warm water, squeeze excess water, and use it for gentle cleaning.
  • Check the temperature of the bathing water (37-38°C) before placing your baby in the water-filled bathtub. The water temperature should be warm and comfortable for the baby.
  • Choose bathing and skincare products carefully for your little one. Go for chemical-free or natural-based skincare products. The chemicals used in a few skincare products can cause skin irritation, eye irritation, and allergies to your baby. Choosing organic, natural, and mild products are safer options for baby care. Avoid products that contain paraben, formaldehyde, sulphates, surfactants, preservatives, strong dyes, and artificial fragrances.
  • Choose natural body wash and cleansers over soaps as babies tend to accidentally chew the soap bars very often.
  • Avoid long bathing time (5-10mins) for babies.
  • After bathing gently pat dry your baby with a soft cloth, apply baby-safe moisturizer and powder, especially around the diaper area. Avoid rubbing the baby’s skin for drying. Use fresh diapers and clean light clothes for dressing up.
Your baby is now good to go!!
