If you find it tough to engage your children on holidays or weekends or, hear “I’m bored”, “There is nothing fun to do at home!” or, have a restless, cranky toddler around, you must try out one of these ideas for outdoor games. Such outdoor fun also helps to put their energy to good use.

1. Treasure hunt:

This fun game can be changed around to suit a child of any age. You can go to the local park and bury a treasure trail for your child to hunt. Or you could simply turn it into a nature expedition by going on the look out for unique bugs and worms you see in your local park. Just put on your running shoes and get going!

2. Chalk it up on the sidewalk:

The name says it all really! You can find these chalks almost at any toys or kids stores in your local area. With that in your hand you can set off in your local area to make some interesting chalk art on the side walk next to your house, or indulge in the traditional games you have grown up with like hopscotch. Or get a stick-on blackboard for your wall, where the little one could draw out his own masterpiece!

3. Bubble it up:

Don’t feel like taking your child to the swing and slide set today? Just gear up with a bubble maker (again easily found in the market, or you can even get your own home made version) and let your toddler chase and pop the bubbles as you blow them out in the open green park. It’s a great way to fit in active playtime without a fuss from your little one.

4. I spy:

This one needs no equipment or a visit to the toy store. Just go on an evening stroll with your toddler and start the game of “I spy”. Pretty soon, you will see your toddler looking around excitedly for things he can spot. You can change this game up by stopping things based on colour or the letter the object starts from or even by describing the object, depending on how old your child is. And what’s more, it’s a great way to make play into a learning moment too!

5. Play ball:

This one is an all-time favourite, and for good reason. Take a big ball and kick it around or play catch or even a passing the ball game if there is a bigger group in the park and you will have one happy toddler in your hands at the end of the evening. And a tired one too!

So get dressed, go out, and discover new joys on your little tot’s face as you play with him and make precious memories along the way.
