The traditional notion of parenting has often been associated with a gender stereotype, where the mother is expected to stay home and care for the children, while the father provides for the family.

However, in recent years, there has been a shift towards a more equal distribution of parenting responsibilities between both parents. This shift towards #equalparenting, also known as shared parenting, breaks down the traditional gender roles associated with parenting.

Many Bollywood Celebrity Dads are breaking through this gender stereotype and advocating for #equalparenting. They understand that parenting is not just a mum’s responsibility but that of the dad too.

5 Bollywood Celebrity Dads Who Are Advocates For #EqualParenting

1. Ranbir Kapoor

In an interview at the Red Sea Film Festival, held at Jeddha, actor and dad Ranbir Kapoor spoke about the most important thing he wants to do for his daughter. He said that he wants to set an example as he believes that a child learns more when they experience it. He wants to teach her things like equality, respecting elders, empathy, and kindness.

Talking about #equalparenting Ranbir Kapoor said that since both he and his wife actor Alia Bhatt are working and since Alia is working more than him, they have jointly decided to take parenting responsibilities equally. He said, “We will balance it out. When she takes work probably I’ll take a break. When I take work, she will take a break.” All dads can surely learn a thing or two from Ranbir.

2. Nick Jonas

Actor Priyanka Chopra’s husband and singer Nick Jonas is another top advocate for #equalparenting. Ever since the birth of their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, Nick and Priyanka have been setting parenting goals even though both of them have extremely busy work schedules. Nick has been taking his fatherly duties seriously, and even his mother-in-law Madhu Chopra agrees to that.

In an interview with The New Indian Express, Priyanka’s mum, Madhu Chopra revealed that Nick and Priyanka make a great team and have decided to share their jobs as parents equally. While Priyanka gives baby Malti a massage, it’s daddy Nick who changes her diapers and gives her a bath!

3. Shahid Kapoor

Mira Rajput and actor Saif Kapoor are doting parents of daughter Misha Kapoor and son Zain Kapoor. Shahid may be one of the top actors in Bollywood but that doesn’t stop him from doing his daddy duties!

In an interview, Shahid revealed that he’s mastered the art of diaper changing! That’s because he’s not only changed Misha and Zain’s diapers but also his younger brother Ishaan’s before he became a dad. Anyone needing diapering lessons, you know who to go to now!

“I want to be part of my child’s growth. I want to be with her in each and every moment. The whole experience of being a parent has been beautiful and life-changing,” is what Shahid said in an interaction with PTI and that just goes to prove that he’s a hands-on dad.

4. Kunal Kemmu

Actors Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Kemmu have never shied away from discussing how they share the workload as parents. In an interaction, Soha Ali Khan revealed, “We share the parenting load equally and there are no tasks that are segregated by gender.”

While Soha reads bedtime stories to her daughter Inaaya and does things like taking her to boot camps etc., Kunal enjoys cooking for his little girl.

5. Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan shares a different rapport with each of his four kids. Even though he could not spend much time with his older kids Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Khan, while they were growing up, Saif is making sure he doesn’t miss the growing up years of his younger kids Taimur and Jeh Ali Khan.

In an interview, his wife and actor Kareena Kapoor Khan revealed how Saif is as a father. She said, “He is so hands-on because he has done it before but I feel there is an intensity with which his son looks at him, more than when he looks at me. So, there is already a bond between them. Also, Saif is a pro, he does everything, including changing the diapers.”

Looks like #equalparenting is here to stay, and why not? When fathers pitch in equally to take care of their kids, the pressure is not only on the mum and that way the family and the relationship are happier.

Benefits Of Equal Parenting

There are other great benefits of #equalparenting such as:

  • Improved Parent-Child Relationships: Equal parenting helps both parents to have a better relationship with their children as they both have equal time and opportunities to bond and connect with them.
  • Better Work-Life Balance: When parenting responsibilities are shared equally, it reduces the stress and burden on one parent, allowing both to have a better work-life balance and more time to focus on other personal and professional pursuits.
  • Improved Mental Health: Equal parenting can reduce feelings of guilt, resentment, and burnout in both parents, leading to improved mental health and overall well-being.
  • Better Role Modeling: Equal parenting provides children with positive role models of both parents taking an active and equal role in their upbringing, promoting gender equality and healthy relationship dynamics.

Sharing parenting responsibilities helps to build a stronger and more equitable relationship between partners, promoting teamwork, communication, and mutual support.
