Allergies in babies are very difficult to detect if parents do not pay attention to the symptoms. Babies who are not introduced to most solid foods also tend to develop other allergies like:

· Cow milk allergy

· Environmental allergy

· Seasonal allergy

· Medicine allergy

Allergies tend to develop when the immune system overreacts to a particular substance or chemical entering the body by producing antibodies against them. The antibody production and the process of attacking these substances lead to several mild to severe symptoms. These symptoms show up really quick (within 1-2 hours).

Cowmilk allergy is quite common in babies where babies tend to show symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and coughing. Some babies also tend to develop swelling on their tongue and lips.

A few babies also show reactions to a particular medicine. In such cases symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, difficulty in breathing, swelling on the hands, feet, or face, skin rashes (redness, itching, bumps on the skin), itching on the body, or feeling light-headedness show up. Besides medicines, few babies also tend to develop allergies due to some chemicals present in shampoos, soaps, handwash, detergent, and other products. When such products come in contact with the babies, they tend to cause itchy skin, rashes, irritation, bumps, etc.

Environmental allergies are uncommon but are caused by pollen, molds, pets, dust, insects, or other factors. Sneezing, redness and itching in the eyes, tightness in the chest, wheezing, coughing, runny nose, skin rashes, and difficulty in breathing.

Seasonal allergies have mild symptoms like sneezing, cold, runny nose, coughing, watery eyes, and itchy eyes. They are quite similar to environmental allergies.

Irrespective of what kind of allergy your baby develops it’s important to manage it with homecare and doctor’s advice to prevent any serious health hazard resulting from it.
