If you thought acne is a teenage skin issue then you’re mistaken. Acne, unfortunately, is not just limited to teenagers. It is one of the most common issues faced by pregnant women and new mums.

The good news is you can control acne with a few simple steps. Here’s how.

Why Do Women Get Acne During And Post Pregnancy?

First, it’s important to understand what causes acne during pregnancy. The changes in hormones during pregnancy can cause the sebaceous glands to go into overdrive. The excess oil produced by these glands clogs up the pores and causes acne.

Skincare Tips For Mums Who Want To Deal With Acne

People often believe that acne is a result of excess oil or dirt on the skin and the attempt to slough off layers of skin using chemical-based, harsh cleansers but that will only leave your skin dry and irritated and make it worse. All you need to do is follow some simple tips.

  • Cleanse Your Skin

Start your day’s skincare routine by cleansing your face with a natural face wash. It’s advisable to use one that is gel-based as it cleanses your skin without dehydrating or leaving the skin feeling tight. While choosing a face wash, look for one that contains  willow herb as it is great for controlling acne.

  • Hydrate Your Skin

You may think that it’s not necessary to moisturise your skin if you have oily skin, as you are worried about clogging your pores. But If the surface of your skin is dehydrated and dry, your oil glands will secrete excess sebum to compensate, and this can cause or worsen acne.

Keeping your skin well hydrated with a natural moisturiser or lotion keeps your skin’s oil production in balance. Apply moisturiser once you cleanse your face and pat it dry with a soft, clean towel.

  • Apply Sunscreen

The sun’s rays can be harmful to your skin. That’s why applying sunscreen after you moisturise your face is a crucial step to protecting the skin from damage. However, choose a sunscreen that is natural and will not clog pores and cause acne.

Repeat the same cleansing and moisturising process at night before you go to bed.

Things To Note

Besides the day and night skincare routine, it’s necessary to keep some things in mind:

  • Make sure your scalp is clean and moisturised, as flakes from the scalp may clog the pores on your forehead causing acne.
  • Use only lukewarm water to wash your face as hot water can dry and irritate the skin.
  • While cleansing your face using a clean washcloth or cotton pad.

While following a proper skincare routine is important, it’s also important to #LabelPadhoMom to ensure your skincare products are natural and have the right ingredients to fight acne.
