The rate of C-section or Cesarean deliveries in India is one of the highest in the world. But is this rate really justified? Have you ever thought that even though your baby’s health is fine, you are fine and yet the doctor is trying to push you towards having a c-section? What’s the reason behind it?

Well, when it comes to the matter of health we have to obviously listen to the doctor and follow their advice. And sometimes a C-section actually is needed. Even though we think everything is fine, the doctor has experience on their side and they can see what we are unable to. But a lot of times, especially in India, doctors tend to suggest a C-section even when a normal delivery will be just fine. The major reason behind this is that a normal delivery is a simple procedure which doesn’t need much manpower or equipment. This, in turn, results in lesser expenses for the patient. On the other hand, C-section is a major surgery. It requires a lot of manpower and equipment thereby increasing the expense.

A lot of times it so happens that before the doctor can ask itself the mother wants to opt for a C-section. The reason for this is that the mother gets scared about the pain and does not want to go through it. So, she instead opts for a C-section where she will be under anaesthesia and won’t feel a thing. But, what they don’t understand is that being a major surgery, there are a lot of complications that can arise including a risk of paralysis or even death for both the mother and the child.

Yes, there will be pain and yes we understand that you are scared. But consider this, by cesarean delivery you are not just putting your child at risk but yourself too and that is not something that should be taken lightly. So, when the day comes for delivery and normal delivery is possible then opt for that instead of cesarean. If this alone doesn’t convince you then we have another argument. As you are put under anaesthesia it takes time for you to wake up. By that time everyone from your family would have seen the baby and you will be the last one. While on the other hand if it’s a normal delivery you will quite literally be the first one to see your baby.

All we can do is give you a choice. It’s your decision at the end. But even then, if the doctor is very strongly suggesting C-section and with justified reason then do that. The child and you yourself need to be in the best of health.
