Diwali is a time of celebration and joy. From the youngest member of the family to the oldest, everyone’s in a festive mood with lights, sound, and action all around. But Diwali is also a time when a lot of accidents take place, especially if it’s kids you’re dealing with. So here are a few precautions you can take to make sure it’s a Diwali to remember for all the right reasons.
1. Buy fireworks only from a licensed seller. Don’t compromise on the price.
2. Make sure your kids wear fully covered footwear and thick cotton clothes, preferably, tightly fitted ones, while they are bursting crackers.
3. Always supervise your kids while they light fireworks.
4. Place the crackers on even surfaces and make sure it’s an open area before igniting them.
5. Keep your child at least an arm’s length away while lighting up the firework.
6. Always keep a bucket of water, a soothing ointment that helps burns and aloe vera gel in handy.
7. Discard the used fireworks as immediately as possible so that others don’t hurt themselves by stepping on them.
8. Make sure there are no vehicles in the area where fireworks will be burst.
9. While one person is igniting the cracker, the others should watch from a safe distance. Overcrowding a small space will make it difficult for people to disperse if something were to happen.
10. Place diyas only in places that you know for sure that kids won’t walk on or won’t touch them by accident.
1. No matter how small, don’t let your kids play with firecrackers indoors or inside the house.
2. Don’t let your child bend over the cracker they are lighting.
3. Don’t let your child go near a firework that is ‘supposedly’ dead to examine it. An adult should volunteer under such circumstances.
4. Don’t burn crackers in your hands. Always bring the lighting stick towards the cracker and not the other way round.
5. Don’t combine two or more different types of crackers and burst them all at once.
6. Avoid lighting fireworks on roads where people walk around or there’s traffic. It could lead to a major road accident.
7. Don’t allow your child to stand near the firework even for a few seconds after lighting it. Pull them away immediately.
8. Don’t forget to change the sparklers or the lighting stick before it burns out completely and burn’s the hand of the person holding it.
Follow all of the above-mentioned precautions and we are sure you and your family will have a safe and a happy Diwali! 🙂
