Pregnancy brings huge changes for you and your body, including your skin. Hormonal changes and changes in lifestyle can take a toll on the mum-to-be.

The stress due to these changes can often be visible on the face, mainly in the form of dark circles, rashes, flaky skin, oily or extremely dry skin. Hence, it can be a great idea to get a facial done and regain a glowing skin.

During pregnancy, it is recommended to avoid products with chemicals as these chemicals can enter your bloodstream and ultimately into your baby’s blood.

Since the fear of COVID-19 infections are still looming large, it’s advisable for pregnant women to avoid going to beauty salons and have a facial at home instead. Here are some tips on how to have a home facial.

All you need are a few, basic things to create your own spa like atmosphere at home for a home spa day

How To Have A Homemade Facial During Pregnancy

1. Create a spa like atmosphere

So what if you can’t go to the spa, you can bring the spa to your home! All you need to do is create a relaxing spa-like atmosphere by getting some foot salt, an aroma diffuser and your favorite essential oil and some aromatic candles.

Make a comfortable space, light the candles and diffuser, add a few drops of the essential oil to the diffuser. Sit back, relax and soak your feet in a bucket of warm water mixed with the foot salt. This will help you relax, before you move on to the facial.

2. Cleanse your face

This is the first and most important step before you start any facial. You can use any face cleanser you have at home or take some cotton balls and soak it with cold milk to cleanse your face.

Rinse your face with cold water and pat it dry with a soft face towel.

3. Steam your face

If you don’t have a face steamer at home, you can create one. Take a bowl of steaming hot water, place your face close to the bowl (close enough to feel the steam). You can trap the steam by covering your head with a towel.

Note: Be extra careful not to burn yourself while handling the hot water.

4. Exfoliate your skin

Now that your pores are open after steaming your face, it’s time to get rid of all the dead skin with a homemade exfoliating pack. You can use anything from coffee to dried and ground orange peel to exfoliate your skin.

5. Apply a face mask

Face masks help your skin brighten and glow. There are many different types of face masks you can make at home, depending on your skin type.

Wipe your face dry after exfoliating it and then apply the mask face. while most face masks usually need to be left on the face for approximately 15-20 minutes some may have to be left longer.

6. Moisturise

Moisturising your face is another important step to end your facial. A well moistursied skin, makes it smooth, soft and radiant. Use moisturiser that suits your skin and apply it generously all over your face and neck,
