You don’t have to wait until s/he is born to take care of your baby, because you’ll have started taking care of them while they’re still in your womb. How, you ask? Your diet, habits, and behavior directly affect your baby. So it is really important for you to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
One of the key factors to note during a baby’s development is baby weight. After the ultrasound scan is done, the doctor may tell you that your child is overweight or underweight. This article will help you figure out exactly what it means, and how you can find out more.
When the radiologist conducts your ultrasound, they measure your baby’s weight by one of these methods:
1. Biparietal diameter (BPD)
2. Femur length (FL)
3. Head circumference (HC)
4. Occipitofrontal diameter (OFD)
5. Abdominal circumference (AC)
6. Humerus length (HL)
After noting down the above parameters, doctors apply a formula to find the weight of the baby. Even if it’s not exactly the same, the baby’s weight will be more or less that number.
The model fetal weight is the average weight of the baby in the womb, which is considered to be the average weight of many healthy infants. But the actual weight of the your baby might be different than one that is given here.

If you observe the table above, you notice that your child begins to grow significantly from your third trimester onwards. After the 35th week the baby increases its weight by 200 grams per week.
This is an average chart and babies usually are at this weight in the womb.
At birth, the infant’s weight is around 2.8kg – 3.6kg. If the baby is less than 2.5kg, it can be considered a low birth weight, and at this point, the health of your baby becomes more important.
