A baby’s weight is something every parent is concerned about. Babies have such a tiny appetite and we have to be careful about what we give them at each one of their meal times. If you don’t give them the right foods, they will not be able to gain the right amount of weight required for proper growth and development.
You definitely have to include those healthy fruits and veggies in their diet. You have to offer them water when they get started on their solid diets. Give them a malt mix every day to meet their daily protein needs. But what else can we do to make sure they gain weight?
For the first year of their life, babies should be mainly breastfed. You may introduce them to cow’s milk after the first year since breast milk is the best drink for a baby. If your baby is formula fed, you may switch to plain cow’s milk after their 12th month. Give them 3 servings of milk per day.
A great way to increase your baby’s weight is by using oils. You can use olive oil when preparing your baby’s food. It is a healthier option in comparison to other oils. Coconut oil can help in weight gain as well as digestion in babies and so you can add this while cooking baby food.
Including dry fruits in your baby’s diet can help improve their appetite. It helps increase their energy levels as well. You can make a dry fruit powder and include it in their regular food or you could give them almond milk, dry fruit ladoo or a dry fruit bar.
When introducing your baby to eggs, give them only the yellow part of the eggs. You can introduce them to the egg whites later on as they might cause allergies. Eggs are a great source of protein and saturated fats. There are so many ways you can add them to your baby’s diet – pudding, scrambled eggs, or boiled.
This is the easiest dish to prepare for your baby. You just have to boil and mash them. When they grow older you could add cinnamon and salt to this. It is high in fibre, magnesium, potassium and vitamins.
Ghee is considered to be the best in helping your baby gain weight. You should add a teaspoon of ghee in every meal to help your tiny one gain weight. Since it can make food heavy, start including it gradually – start with a few drops, then increase it to a teaspoon.
Chicken is another excellent source of vitamins and magnesium. It is also rich in cholesterol, phosphorus and niacin. This can be given to babies as a simple broth, puree or with rice.
