India’s leading DTC brand and parenting platform BabyChakra, and The Moms Co., an all-natural mum, and baby care brand recently hosted a successful second edition of #MomsTalk—India’s first offline community meetup platform, exclusively for mums at Someplace Else, Jio World Drive, BKC, Mumbai on January 28, 2023.

#MomsTalk aims to become an extensive support group, bringing mums from different walks of life together to engage in meaningful conversations on motherhood and beyond and support the next generation of mothers and children. At its core, the event also supports a noble cause dear to the hearts of the community members and has pledged to donate a minimum of Rs. 1,00,000 to C.R.Y, a non-governmental organisation that works to support the needs of underprivileged children.

The #MomsTalk 2.0 hosted a power-packed panel, featuring actor Sonali Bendre, Radhika Gupta, MD and CEO of Edelweiss, Journalist Faye D’Souza, Naiyya Saggi, who is the Co-founder of Good Glamm Group and Founder, and CEO of BabyChakra, The Moms Co.’s Founder and CEO Malika Datt Sadani and moderated by Parenting Coach, Payal Narang and Barkha Chawla, Community Manager, BabyChakra. During the session, these inspiring women touched upon the different perks and perils of motherhood and engaged with the audience to bring forth their stories as well.

Entrepreneur and mum Naiyya Saggi also talked about her parenthood experiences and shared her most inspiring moment as a mum. She also added interesting pieces to the conversation and revealed that parenthood is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

On Recommending Motherhood To Her Peers

Naiyya started the conversation on a fun note and shared, “In terms of whether I will recommend being a mum…I think it’s great for business, for BabyChakra and The Moms Co., so yes, everybody become mums and dads!” She also went on to give her honest take on parenthood and added, “Parenthood is not for everybody, and actually being a mum or a dad requires a lot of bravery.” She recalled a quote, “When you see your heart walk out of your body” and said that you understand the true meaning of this after becoming a parent.

Saggi also shared a personal experience and recounted the time when she dropped her daughter to summer school for the first time. She revealed, “When I saw my daughter walk right into the school, and not turn back, I started crying. Suddenly this little thing that I had breastfed and seen grow around me is suddenly independent and had a personality, and did not need me, and I was happy, but at the same time worried whether she will come home safely.”

While she agrees that it’s tough being a mum and dad, she also reveals that parenthood is the most special journey in the world.

On The One Thing That Makes Her Instantly Feel Better

We all need a little pick-me-up through tough days, and what’s the one thing that makes Naiyya feel better? “A hug from my daughter”, the founder reveals. She also added, “If I am going through a terrible investor call or anything else, I just get a hug from my daughter, and I am like okay, this is sorted.” Besides sharing these special moments with her daughter, the founder also relies on a good cup of coffee to perk her up and uplift her mood.

About Her Vision For BabyChakra

Before talking about her vision for BabyChakra, the Good Glamm Group Co-founder talks about its genesis, where the plan was to create a platform to show that every mum and dad has a similar story, and they are going through the same challenges.

Additionally, Naiyya shared that the two things that she is immensely passionate about, and which are going to be foundational in the coming phases of BabyChakra are two campaigns #EqualParenting and #LabelPadhoMoms. She revealed that there’s a lot more to come with respect to these campaigns and asked the audience to watch out for the interesting and helpful stuff that is going to soon come their way.

As Naiyya rightly puts it, “Parenthood is not for the faint of heart,” and it requires a lot of courage to take upon this journey. But one thing that can help make your transition smoother to parenthood is preparing for this journey beforehand. Further, we have shared some helpful tips that you can try to emotionally prepare yourself before welcoming your newborn.

4 Tips To Prepare For Parenthood

Don’t Have Unrealistic Parental Expectations

There’s no such thing as a “perfect parent.” It’s normal for you to make mistakes so don’t be too harsh on yourself. Rather learn from your mistakes, and seek help and support from online communities like BabyChakra that offer expert advice on parenting and babycare.

Practice Self-Care Before Embracing Parenthood

It’s important for you and your partner to practice self-care and take time out to spend with each other before your baby’s arrival. Go for walks together, enjoy brunch at your favourite restaurant, and ensure you get lots of sleep, as that is going to be a luxury after your munchkin’s arrival.

Think About Your Parenting Duties

Have an honest conversation about your partner and discuss how you want to share your parental duties. Talk through every aspect and ensure you both have equal responsibilities so that you can enjoy more time together with your little one. Make notes and come up with different strategies that can work best for you.

Get Ready to Slow Down

It will take time for you to adjust to parenthood and caring for your newborn. There are a lot of tasks that you may not be able to achieve on time, but rather than getting overwhelmed and blaming yourself, accept the fact that you need to slow down and reduce your stress by seeking support.

While the transition to parenthood is easy for none, you eventually learn to navigate through this journey and take care of your little ones. Stay tuned to @mybabychakra and @themomsco to get all the details about the upcoming #MomsTalk sessions.
