When it is raining and children cannot play outdoors, it can be pretty tough to keep them engaged and entertained when they are stuck inside. We offer some rainy day activities that will keep you and your family entertained for hours.

1. Make a fort:

It is nothing less than a childhood tradition where kids participate to make forts out of blankets, cushions, and furniture. Build a large fort with your kid and they will stay busy playing and doing fun activities in their castle of dreams.

2. Play board games:

Classics like Ludo, Snake and Ladder, Monopoly, etc. never go out of fashion and can be enjoyed by everyone. Spend a quiet afternoon with your family, killing boredom and waiting for rain to go away.

3. Movie time:

No day is better than a rainy day to cuddle up with you kid in a blanket and eat some delicious snacks while watching your kid’s favourite movie. Turn your family room into a personal theater and enjoy the show

4. Art session:

Give your kids pencils, crayons, and drawing sheets and tell them to draw a scene that mimics the rainy day outside, or better still, let them draw whatever they desire. They will spend hours quietly pouring their innocent heart out on that sheet of paper and even more hours will be spent in colouring their beautiful creations.

5. Cooking class:

Cooking is an essential life skill and every child must learn to cook for him/herself. Being indoor on a rainy day presents you with a great opportunity to teach your kid how to cook his/her favourite recipe. Let them be your assistants and give them little tasks. In this manner, they will not only get interested in cooking, which otherwise seems too boring to kids, but they will also be proud of the delicious food they ‘made’.

6. Write a letter:

Writing a letter is another important skill that is fast depleting in today’s digital age of WhatsApp and other chatting apps. Teach your kids how to do it by telling them to write a letter to their best friend or their favourite relative describing the scene of the rainy day or any other thing that they want to write about.

7. Dance party:

A rainy day should also be about fun. Children can get restless cooped indoors all day. Host a dance party and literally dance till you drop. This will help in releasing energy. Dancing around the house will bring you and the kids closer to each other.

8. Read a book:

This activity is educational and fun too. Reading a book with your kids builds their interest in the book and instils a habit of reading in them. It also improves their reading skills. So, cuddle up in a blanket with a mug of hot chocolate and read together.

9. Photos albums:

Kids love to look at old photos and hearing stories about them. Find some old photo albums and spend entire afternoon cherishing memories from a wonderful past and telling incredible stories behind them to the kids.

10. Learn origami:

Teach your kids a little origami. Teach them how to make simple objects like birds, cats, caps, boats, etc. from paper sheets. They can even play with the boats in the water outside, when the rain stops.
