We have always heard women complaining about itchy skin and stretch marks during pregnancy. It’s one of the most common problems faced by almost every pregnant woman. Stretch marks are nothing but narrow, itchy streak lines that develop on the skin. They are usually found on the tummy and sometimes on the breast and thighs during your pregnancy period.
Most women start experiencing stretch marks around the 6th week of their pregnancy. Stretch marks are believed to be a result of weight gain during pregnancy, hormonal changes, and stretching of the skin due to the growing belly. Once a woman delivers the baby these stretch marks tend to start fading and might even go away completely over a period of time.
Women with high skin elasticity tend to get lesser stretch marks and also, they might appear in a later stage of pregnancy as compared to others.
The first sign of a stretch mark is the itchiness that develops around the area where the skin starts breaking or becoming thinner than normal. Although these marks aren’t harmful and do not lead to any serious skin problems, it’s always a good idea to know more about them for better prevention and control. A regular moisturization of the skin and keeping yourself hydrated are the two simplest ways to improve skin health and control stretch marks during pregnancy.
