Intestinal worms are pretty common among kids – In fact, one in five kids in India are known to have worms. Pinworms also called as threadworms are the most common kind. But hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms infections are also seen in young children. In order to get rid of them, it’s important to know what caused them in the first place and the symptoms to recognize a worm infection.

Causes:

Bad hygiene is a major reason of worm infestation. Not washing the hands and legs properly after using the toilet and before eating food, drinking dirty water and eating food that is not cooked/boiled properly are all part of bad hygiene habits. Apart from this, the harmful bacteria can also transfer from one person to the other when spending long periods of time in close proximity.

Symptoms:

Stomach ache, weight loss, irritability, Nausea, blood in stool, vomiting, coughing, itching sensation around the anus, frequent urination due to UTI in girls, loss of appetite, fever, visible worms in stool are common symptoms that point towards a worm infestation.

Remedies:

Garlic has antibacterial properties which will destroy the worms present in your child’s tummy. So, give your child a small glass of raw garlic juice mixed with some water everyday to get rid of them completely.

2. Clove water

Throw a couple of cloves in every glass of water that your child drinks. S/he doesn’t have to necessarily have to eat the cloves, the water itself will have the desired effect.

3. Papaya Juice

Take a glass of papaya juice and add a spoon of honey to it. Drinking this everyday is known to get rid of intestinal worms. Plus it’s also super healthy in improving digestion and immunity.

4. Milk and Turmeric

Having a glass of milk with a pinch of turmeric in it everyday will improve your child’s health by a big leap. The antibiotic properties of turmeric and the calcium in milk prevents your child from getting infections and diseases.

Apart from the home remedies, make sure the water that your child drinks everyday is boiled and cooled.
