My breastfeeding journey was little tough in the beginning. My son Arjun was diagnosed jaundice with very high bilirubin count on the second day of his birth. Hence he was not able to take my breastfeed as he was kept in the hospital for Phototherapy treatment (under blue rays) to bring the bilirubin count to normal value. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days and used breastpump to pump out my milk and give it to him. It was very tough for a mother to see his newborn child in the hospital under doctor’s supervision. Thankfully my husband and in-laws were there to support me. My husband helped me taking care of my son at night so that I can take short nap.
It's not enough after proper establishment of milk, there is a phase called breastfeeding regression around 1-2 months which is quite peculiar. My son totally rejected feeding from my left breast resulting in feeding from only one side. So it was tough for me as he was not able to drink from other breast making it heavy so i had to express to avoid lumps in the breast due to milk engorgement.
So i tried clutch hold position which required to hold the baby up closer to the breast and putting the pillow underkneath your arm. Thankfully it worked and my breastfeeding journey was smooth thereafter. I breastfed him upto 18 months along with solids. Breastfeeding the child is very important for his overall growth and development.
