Good Evening! Is it just me or do kids seem have a infinite amount of energy especially in the evenings? Kids are challenging. Each is unique, and has special needs that you must recognize and encourage. It’s really hard to do that in the middle of the grind. Spending one-on-one quality time with our kids is one of the greatest gifts we can give them. But i have noticed this with my son that no matter what you do, your kids just want you. Spend time together and be fully present while you’re with them. Our kids, won’t remember that the house was clean but they will remember a day on the farm with you. They’ll remember a “date” for apple juice and pastry at your closest bakery shop. They’ll talk to their own kids about donuts on Sunday after lunch.

My evenings are generally spent trying to keep my son busy with various activities that won't only keep him occupied but help him develop skills and create memories together. But with limited patience and big energies, it can be very difficult to find toddler activities that will keep our kids engaged.

I'm listing some activities that I do with my son that keeps us both busy and happy:

1. Coloring / Painting (place a plastic sheet on the ground and let them get creative)

2. Reading books.

3. Card games/ Flash cards.

4. Help with safe household chores.

5. Music / Dance party.

6. Pretend Play.

Only when we fill our children’s emotional cup can they be happy and settled in the routine. Children need a lot of time with their caregivers. They look at time spent together with their parents as a representation of love. So make it a point to first give your child a good 30 minutes to an hour each day. Dedicate this time to reading books, playing silly games, talking, singing, and dancing anything you enjoy. There should be no phone calls or messages to be looked at during one-on-one time. This simple act of dedicated time will work wonders for your relationship with your child. #MommyTakeover
