MY TURBAN IS MY CROWN 👑
Born in a Sikh family has been my constant support. The day I was born, I've stolen the hearts of many, as my Mumma says. Always been beautiful & charming just as my mom or maybe less than her, she's the prettiest one in the family till now.
I was introduced to Sikh tradition when I turned 6 months old. My mom used to recite Mool Mantra, the first baani (path) that every mother or anyone in the family recites to a newborn. Well, WAHEGURU was the first word that I said, as everyone says in the family.
I was just like the other girls who love to get ready, wear anything & everything without any hesitation. During my vacation in the second year of graduation, in 2010, I started going to Gurudwara Sahib early morning around; 3.30 a.m. It was Lucknow Samagam (traditional program) in which all the keertaniyas come from different parts of the world & the samagam lasts for 2-3 days. I was aware of all this process, ever since I grew up, as my mom's family was baptized (one who takes naam of their guru/ Amrit chakhna).
I asked my mom whether we should go for Samagam as I wasn't feeling good those days. She agreed & we booked our seats for the amalgam.
It was our first day there, we left for the keertan program. Two days passed away, & then on the last day, while I was getting ready for the last keertan program, I felt something strange. I requested my mom I want to get baptized, & she thought I am kidding. She asked me again- ""Are you sure about it Beta?""
No one was ready to believe in, that I have made this decision as according to everyone's perception I'll become a model or a designer.
Questions were being asked to me - ""Are you okay? Has something happened to you? Pakka Amrit chakhna hai? Is it your decision or you're doing it forcefully?""
And I answered every one - it was all my decision & no one has forced me for this amazing opportunity! I got mesmerized by watching newborn children who were getting ready for Amrit Sanchar (baptizing). I thought when these little ones can do, why not me?
On August 25, 2010, I got baptized & got my crown on my head. My turban is my Crown & I am proud to be a Sikh.
