What You Need To Know About Bleeding During Pregnancy

Vaginal bleeding during pregnancy can be frightening. However, be assured that bleeding or spotting doesn’t always mean that you are having a miscarriage. Here’s all that you need to know about the various factors that may cause bleeding during pregnancy.

IMPLANTATION BLEEDING: This happens just when you conceive, you might have some spotting without even realizing it, or may assume it for period bleeding. The colour of this blood can be either pink to red or brown. This bleeding which is common in the early days of pregnancy after a possible conception is known as implantation bleeding. It happens around the time you expect your periods and might last for 6 to 12 days.

SPOTTING AFTER A TEST: You may have spotting, if you have had an internal examination or a pap smear test.

BREAKTHROUGH BLEEDING: This might happen around the time when you’re expecting your periods are normally due; that is, at around 4, 8 and 12 weeks of pregnancy. You might also experience backache, cramps, a heavy sensation in the pelvis and bloating.

Bleeding due to the above is considered normal but as pregnancy progresses, bleeding may occur due to other serious causes.
