Miscarriage, also known as spontaneous abortion, is an event that leads to the loss of a fetus before the 20th week of the pregnancy. Most of the women suffer from miscarriage within the first 12 weeks.

There are various reasons for an increased risk of miscarriage:

  • Genetic problems
  • Underlying health issues
  • Previous history of miscarriage
  • Cervical or uterine infection
  • Age (above 35years)
  • Lifestyle
  • Drug abuse
  • Bad nutrition

The body tends to give some warning signs when such events take place. Some of the warning signs include:

  • Excessive vaginal bleeding or spotting
  • Vaginal tissue and fluid discharge
  • Severe cramps or abdominal pain
  • Increasing back pain
  • Dizziness and fainting
  • Weight low
  • Lowering of hCG levels

Depending on the type of miscarriage the signs and symptoms may differ.

  • Complete miscarriage

In this type of miscarriage the there’s excess pain, bleeding, and fluid discharge. There’s a complete elimination of the embryo from the uterus, followed by the subside in the pain and bleeding.

  • Threatened miscarriage

As the name suggests the cramping and bleeding during this period point out to the upcoming event of miscarriage. There’s a severe lower backache that’s experienced during this period. The cervix tends to remain close in this type.

  • Missed miscarriage

There are no symptoms seen in this type of miscarriage. The embryo dies in the uterus without any signs. This kind of miscarriage can be detected by decreased hormonal levels (hCG).

  • Incomplete miscarriage

After the death of the embryo, the body tends to eliminate only some part of tissue and blood. The remaining part of the tissue and other embryos remains in the uterus. Back pain and abdominal pain accompanied with some vaginal bleeding and discharge are the symptoms seen during this phase.

Irrespective of the type of miscarriage, the mother’s body undergoes a lot of trauma and pain during this period. In case of any miscarriage signs seen during the pregnancy immediately consult your gynaecologist and take proper help.
