Post pregnancy or post-delivery a lot of women have a myth that the first 40 days are for them to rest and they cannot exercise during that period. The fact is, although these first 40 days are for them to rest, the body needs to be in optimum capacity with some exercises. Women who have undergone a vaginal delivery are normally advised to start exercising after 2 weeks of complete rest post-pregnancy and on the other hand, women who have undergone C-section are advised to start exercising after about 4 weeks. The idea of the first 40 days is for the woman to recover but there’s no compulsion that says that you cannot exercise in these 40 days.
During this period of recovery, a woman can practice light mobility exercises coupled with strengthening exercises. Although the set of exercises might vary as per the individual needs and conditions, most women who have undergone vaginal delivery can practice
· Leg raises
· Bridge exercises
· Squat exercises
· Back exercises
· Upper body exercises
· Hamstring exercises
Also, during the lactation period, a lot of women tend to experience cervical issues, and upper back issues due to their postures while breastfeeding. for the same, it’s very important to practice upper body exercises and cervical exercises along with other exercises post-delivery.
Lastly, irrespective if you had a vaginal delivery, C-section or a complicated pregnancy always make sure you practice mild exercises, exercises that are specific to your condition and under the guidance of an expert.
