Celebrities are always in the limelight and it’s difficult for them to keep their family lives private. While some of them are comfortable with sharing about their kids on social media, some prefer to keep their little ones away from the spotlight, to make sure their kids have a normal childhood.

So far, actor Priyanka Chopra too was very conscious about keeping her little daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas away from the media glare and had not revealed her face to the world, even though she shared Malti’s pictures, she never exposed her face. All their pictures were cleverly shot keeping that in mind. But looks like Priyanka and Nick Jonas like every proud parent, have given in to the urge of showing off their baby girl to the world.

Today, we live in a world that’s ruled by social media and when you become parents, there is such an immense joy in your life that the urge to share pictures of your little one is even more. Some parents start posting every little thing about their babies as soon as they are born, while some like Priyanka who chose to wait till Malti Marie turned one, wait for their little ones to grow a little older before they start sharing their pictures with the world.

Sharing a few pictures of your child along with you and your family is harmless but when you share certain sensitive information about your child online, you expose them to a plethora of risks. Parents need to keep a few internet safety rules in mind while sharing information or pictures of their young kids online.

What You Must Avoid Sharing About Your Kids On Social Media

  • Personal information

You might think that a passport photo captures your baby’s smile and baby’s curls perfectly. But before posting that picture on social media, pause and think of the information you’re giving away. Identity theft is one of the biggest dangers today. Avoid sharing your kids’ personal identifiers like birthmarks, date of birth, and place of birth on social media platforms.

  • Personal photos

Parents love to capture every little thing that their babies and toddlers do, from potty training to and baby’s first bath. But these should be kept private and not shared on social media because these photos could fall into the wrong hands and can be accessible to online predators.

  • Location

Avoid posting photos or posts that reveal your little one’s current location or places he/ she visits, the name of the school your child goes to, the route your child takes etc. It can make your child vulnerable to kidnapping as well as digital kidnapping, where strangers lift the images and pretend that the children are their own.

  • Embarrassing moments

Putting anything online leaves behind a trail that will follow your children for the rest of their lives. Therefore avoid sharing things about your child that may embarrass them later in life, like a harmless tantrum that you may find funny, or something silly your child may say. It may seem harmless to share these moments now, but when your little one starts going to school, these photos and videos could be the reason behind school bullies.

  • Medical history

Posting about your child’s medical information on specific conditions, diseases, and allergies should be kept private. Child identity theft can also be a possibility when medical records are public.

Things that you share on social media can have potential safety risks. It can make your child vulnerable to identity theft, online predator targeting, and cyberbullying. It’s important to consider these risks and make informed decisions about what information to share. It’s best to limit personal information and only share what is necessary if at all.
