Managing a toddler and dealing with pregnancy can be difficult. With morning sickness, constipation, fatigue, swollen feet and itchy skin, you might feel that you have very little energy left to care for your toddler.

You might be juggling work, a toddler who needs your attention, and pregnancy insomnia. Here are some tips for surviving pregnancy with a toddler.

6 Tips To Manage Your Life While Juggling A Toddler And Pregnancy

  1. Conserve energy wherever you can: Pregnancy with a toddler can be tough. Don’t hesitate to ask your partner or in-laws to take care of your toddler. You can ask them to take your little one out for ice cream or a visit to the park. While they are away, you can spend some time reading your favourite book, enjoy good music and take a nap too to keep the stress at bay.

  1. Encourage your toddler to be independent: Toddlers can be clingy, especially when they’re worried that their mums might not have time for them soon. During this time, you can try to bond with your little one by teaching him/ her to be independent so that your child can help you with small chores.

Your child might feel proud and confident to do things like sorting silverware or putting away laundry. This will also inculcate moral values in your child.

  1. Be patient with yourself: Supporting and nurturing a baby within can be a difficult task. Plus, you have a toddler at home! Pregnancy fatigue and stress might make it difficult for you to complete all the tasks that you normally do.

Be patient and go easy on yourself. It might take you a little longer before you have the energy to tackle the laundry pile, and that’s alright. You can also ask your partner or your maid for help.

  1. Make a plan: If you experience morning sickness or just feel extra sluggish in the morning, making a plan ahead might help. You can set out work and daycare clothes the night before and prepare a quick yet healthy breakfast that requires less effort. If you are a working mum, you can also try to wrap up your work quickly so that you can get some extra time to rest.
  1. Play with your child in ways you can manage: Early pregnancy with a toddler might be difficult with the pangs of the first trimester. You can get engaged with your child from the comfort of the couch too.

  1. Make time for self-care: It is highly recommended to make some time for yourself. Pampering yourself and indulging in self-care is perhaps the best retreat amidst pregnancy fatigue, especially when you are running after your older child.

You can also consider getting a prenatal massage to relieve stress, pain, and muscle tension. It also facilitates the release of endorphins in the body that helps the pregnant mum sleep easily and feel more relaxed.

Now that you are already aware of the tips to manage both your second pregnancy and toddler, we are sure that you will make it through like a pro!
