Entrepreneur Upasana Kamineni, who is all set to embrace parenthood with her actor-husband Ram Charan, recently opened up about her decision to freeze her eggs ‘very early’ in marriage.

The couple who tied the knot in 2012 decided to opt for egg freezing as they wanted to be financially stable and secure before starting their family. Read on, as we get you more details from Upasana’s exclusive interview, why she opted to freeze her eggs, and more about the egg freezing procedure.

Upasana Kamineni On Her Decision To Freeze Her Eggs Early In Marriage

Stating that they wanted to ensure their child has a stable lifestyle, Upasana revealed, “My husband and I took an early call in our marriage regarding egg freezing. Also, we both believed that at that point in time, we needed to focus on our careers. Thankfully today, we are both in a place where we can afford to take care of our child with the income we are generating.”

Upasana also said that their main aim was to form stability in life so that they can offer a healthy and secure lifestyle to their child. In fact, according to experts, more and more couples are opting for egg freezing nowadays, as it enables them to embrace parenthood at an age when they are financially secure and independent.

Upasana Kamineni On Embracing Motherhood At The Right Time

The mum-to-be recently penned down a heartfelt note about embracing motherhood, while celebrating her first Mother’s Day. In the post, Upasana can be seen flaunting her adorable baby bump and posing for the camera.

The entrepreneur captioned the post, “I am proud to embrace motherhood for all the right reasons. I did not do it to conform to society’s expectations or to fit in. My desire to become a mum was not driven by the desire to carry my legacy or to strengthen my marriage.”

“I chose to have a child as I was emotionally prepared to give unconditional care and love that they deserve for their overall well-being,” she added.

In the next section, we discuss more about the egg freezing process, what it entails, and when is the right time to opt for this procedure.

What Is Egg Freezing?

Oocyte cryopreservation or egg freezing is a form of assisted reproductive technology (ART), which enables doctors to retrieve, freeze, and store a woman’s eggs.

This process allows women to pause their biological clock and store them for future use when they are ready to embrace parenthood. At a later date, the frozen eggs are thawed and combined with sperm to help develop an embryo. The embryo is then implanted in the uterus, and if the transfer is successful, doctors confirm pregnancy.

What Does This Process Entail?

The egg freezing procedure usually takes 2-3 weeks to complete. For optimal results, the process is aligned with your menstrual cycle. The following steps are entailed in the procedure.

  • Medical exam: First, you have to consult a fertility doctor, who will conduct tests to assess your health. They may also suggest ultrasounds to scan your ovarian reserve and determine if you are suitable for this process,
  • Ovarian stimulation: Once you are given the go-ahead on the process, you will start birth control pills to stimulate your follicles and also start injections. During this stage, you will have frequent monitoring visits to determine the progress of your follicles.
  • Egg retrieval: In this step, the doctor will retrieve eggs from your ovaries. The embryologist will retrieve healthy eggs from your ovaries and freeze them using a process called vitrification.
  • Recovery period: Your doctor will suggest taking plenty of rest after the process as you may experience bloating and cramping. You can take prescribed medications or use a heating pad to soothe your pain.

Who Is This Process For?

Egg freezing is beneficial for every woman who doesn’t desire to start a family immediately, but later in life. It is also recommended for women undergoing chemotherapy or cancer treatments, or those who have fertility conditions like endometriosis or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

What Is The Right Time To Opt For This Process?

Women are considered to be at their peak fertile age in their early 30s. You can still go for egg freezing beyond this age, but fertility experts recommend getting this procedure earlier, before your 40s.

Conclusion

We appreciate Upasana Kamineni for openly discussing her decision to freeze her eggs and challenging societal norms at the same time. In fact, the procedure of egg freezing is considered a proven solution for couples who wish to embrace parenthood when they are financially stable in life. If you are considering this process, do consult your fertility expert first, as they can give you all the rightful information and guide you on the next steps to ensure your health and well-being.
