  • Get a preconception check up

You are likely to conceive sooner when your body is in perfect condition. Before you start planning, schedule a visit with your gynecologist to know if you are fit enough to get Pregnant. Do not worry if you get diagnosed with any health trouble. Nowadays, most health issues can be treated.


  • Kick off old habits

It is vital to steer clear of habits like drinking, smoking and any other form of intoxication well in advance when you start planning. Also, you could begin with a good folic acid supplement (after consulting your doctor) when you start planning. This nutrient can dramatically reduce the risk of certain birth defects.


  • Tracking your ovulation cycle

The key to getting pregnant quickly is figuring out when you'll ovulate, or release an egg from your ovary. You ovulate only once each menstrual cycle. If you can tell when you'll ovulate, you and your partner can time intercourse for the best chance of getting pregnant that cycle. There are various aids to track ovulation cycle like an ovulation strip, patch test, and basal  thermometers.


  • Time your love making

Once you know your time frame for ovulation, plan to have sex during your most fertile window, which is two to three days before ovulation through the day you ovulate. If you're not sure when your fertile period will be, aim to have sex every other day during the middle two weeks of your cycle. That way you're likely to have healthy sperm in your fallopian tubes whenever your body releases an egg.


  • Increase sperm count

Strong, healthy sperm has the best chance of fertilizing an egg. Your partner can do several things to try to improve his fertility:


  • Skip tobacco and recreational drugs.
  • Limit alcoholic drinks to no more than three a day.
  • Get to a healthy weight if significantly overweight.
  • Get enough of certain key nutrients – like zinc, folic acid, and vitamin C – that help produce strong and plentiful sperm.
  • Don't use hot tubs and saunas or take hot baths because heat kills sperm.

The sooner your partner makes these changes, the better:  Sperm take a while to mature, so any  improvements now will yield better sperm specimens in about three months.


  • Don’t worry about the position

It’s a myth that certain sex positions help in getting pregnant faster. Yes, they may surely help in conceiving but, it doesn’t mean that they are the only ways to get Pregnant. Certain gravity-defying positions, such as sitting or standing during intercourse, however, may discourage sperm from traveling upstream. It's a matter of gravity [and] you don't want all the semen to run out.


  • Lie down 

It is a good idea to keep lying down for 15 to 20 mins after intercourse so as to help the semen travel into the cervix and remain there. You don’t need to keep your legs up. Lying down should be enough. Avoid using the restroom during this time as well.


  • De-stress

Try not to get stressed out about starting a family. You may roll your eyes if someone says, 'Just relax and it will happen,' but stress can actually interfere with ovulation. So the more relaxed you are, the better!

Whatever helps you de-stress is fine, as long as it's healthy.

  • Exercising

It is a very good way to reach your ideal weight and keeping yourself healthy in turn, leading to a great functioning body.


  • Cut back on strenuous workouts

Being physically active most days of the week can help a woman's body prepare for the demands of pregnancy and labor. But getting too much exercise or doing frequent strenuous workouts could interfere with ovulation. Doctors see a lot of menstrual disturbances in women who exercise heavily, and a lot of times these women need to cut back on their workouts if they want to become pregnant.


  • Age-Related issues

As women get older their fertility decreases because of age-related changes in the ovaries that cause a decline in the quantity and quality of her eggs. With advancing age, there's also an increased risk for some health problems which can contribute to a loss of fertility. There's a gradual fertility decline in women beginning in their 30s, a sharper decline after age 37 and a steep decline after age 40. These declines mean it may take longer to become pregnant.

How long to try before getting help

If you're younger than 35 and haven't gotten pregnant after trying for a year, it may be time to see a fertility specialist. If you're 35 or older, talk to a specialist after you've tried for six months with no luck. Of course, if you know there's a reason you or your partner are more likely to have a fertility problem, it's a good idea to see a specialist even before you start trying in order, to begin with, the treatment.

But, the most important advice for a woman who wants to get pregnant is to get to know her body, specifically her menstrual cycle. Knowing and understanding her cycle will help a great deal to plan and stir things up soon. However, a very important thing to keep in mind is to enjoy sex rather than making it a mundane act to conceive. Couples, under the pressure of planning, forget to enjoy the act and take the stress of conception. Many a time, this too leads to delays in pregnancy as  a healthy mind is much more vital than a healthy body.
