In vitro fertilisation is one of the methods meant for those couples who can’t conceive through natural processes. As the success rate of conceiving a baby through IVF is just 25-30%, it is vital to know about IVF tips for success in the first attempt to avoid further expenses and expedite the journey towards pregnancy.

What Is IVF?

In Vitro Fertilization is a method of fertilisation in which an egg and sperm are joined in a laboratory. The process entails tracking and promoting a woman’s ovulatory cycle, taking an ovum or ova from her ovaries, and allowing sperm to fertilize them in a laboratory.

IVF Tips For Success

1. Select A Good IVF Clinic

The key to increasing the chances of success in IVF treatment is the selection of a good IVF clinic. These clinics are differentiated based on their technician’s skills, conditions on which the embryo grows, etc. Therefore, make a list of IVF clinics and look for the essential details before finalising the one. The basic information can be the following:

  • Accreditation of the clinic and the board certifications of the physicians
  • Cost of the procedure
  • Pregnancy ratio per embryo transfer
  • How long the embryos are stored

2. Avoid Ejaculation Prior Sperm Donation

The ejaculation before two three days of the sperm donation can reduce the total sperm counts. Therefore, male partners should not ejaculate a week before the sperm donation. According to medical experts, refraining from sexual intercourse and masturbation can prevent diminishing sperm quality.

3. Eat Plenty Of Good Fats

Good fats are monosaturated fats that are beneficial for keeping the heart healthy and improving fertility in women. According to a recent study, eating foods rich in monosaturated fats help a woman get pregnant through fertility methods.

4. Talk To A Therapist

Fertility treatments, including IVF, sometimes take a toll on a woman’s emotional and mental well being. Therefore, a discussion with a therapist, regarding your hopes, fears and excitement can bring your emotional and mental well being back. The support from the spouse, family, and friends can bring a lot of good hopes, thereby increasing the chances of success of IVF

5. Maintain Healthy Weight

The BMI (Body Mass Index) has a role to play in your IVF success. Therefore, maintain a healthy weight by making necessary changes to your diet and lifestyle. Quit smoking and the consumption of alcohol. You can talk to your doctor about Prenatal Vitamins that can improve the quality of both sperm and eggs. Get plenty of sleep by ensuring 8 hours of sound sleep.

Success Rate Of IVF

Most women have 20-35 per cent IVF success rates per cycle. But the chances of becoming pregnant diminish with each subsequent round while the expense rises. Three complete rounds of IVF improve the odds of a successful pregnancy to 45-53 per cent. However, the essential thing to remember about IVF is that it isn’t always successful, and the procedure can require time, money, and even emotional tolls.

Precautions To Take During IVF

In the case of an IVF pregnancy, the level of care must be substantially higher because the couple has already put in a lot of work to conceive.

  • Keep doing what you’re doing. Patients who have become pregnant following IVF do not require bed rest.
  • Take your meds on time.
  • Exercising is beneficial.
  • Avoid taking stress.
  • Maintain a well-balanced diet.
  • Alcohol, caffeine, and narcotics should all be avoided.

What To Avoid During IVF?

Avocado, extra-virgin olive oil, nuts, and seeds are all good sources of healthful fats during IVF. However, red meat, sugar, refined carbohydrates, and other highly processed foods should all be avoided during IVF treatment.

Medicines That May Interfere With Fertility Drugs

Some of the most common medicines that affect fertility in women are:

  • Meloxicam, diclofenac or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs)
  • Anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs)
  • Antipsychotics (neuroleptic medicines)
  • Thyroid medication
  • Spironolactone, a diuretic used to treat swelling (oedema)

Taking care of your physical and mental well-being while undergoing IVF treatments will improve your chances of conceiving a child.
