While there is no sure-shot way to get rid of acne entirely, treating acne not only helps to prevent acne and keep your skin healthy. Pimples can happen anywhere in the body, but they occur on the face. The acne-causing bacteria causes inflammation when sebum (the oil found naturally on the skin) turns to fatty acids. While there is no sure-shot way to get rid of acne completely, you use tips to prevent acne and keep your skin healthy.

What Causes Acne?

Acne occurs when sebum, an oily material that lubricates your hair and skin, is produced in excess. In addition, dead skin cells obstruct hair follicles. Bacteria can cause acne to become more severe by causing inflammation and infection.

Difference Between Acne And Pimples

The distinction between acne and pimples is that acne is a disease, whereas pimples are a symptom of it. Acne is a skin ailment that affects the oil glands and hair follicles, and bacteria cause inflammation in the plug, which results in red pimples.

5 Tips To Prevent Acne

1. Know Your Skin Type

Understanding your skin type is crucial in deciding the products to use and avoid. Using wrong products usually creates more mess than making the situation better. You can use the following parameters to identify which skin type you may have:

  • Dry Skin – Skin feels tight and flaky
  • Oily Skin – Skin looks shiny and appears greasy at the later part of the day.
  • Combination Skin – Your T-zone is oily, and your cheek area is dry.
  • Sensitive Skin – Skin gets quickly irritated and inflamed.

Oily skin types are more prone to acne; however, even dry skin can also get acne.

2. Wash Your Face Properly

It is essential to remove excess oil, sweat, and dirt from the face to prevent acne. Therefore, wash your face correctly using mild cleansers that are sulfate-free, fragrance-free, and gentle to use twice daily.

Washing your face can also make the situation worse, and it rips off the natural oil from the skin, causing dryness and irritation. Moreover, harsh and chemical-based cleansers or astringents can also dry the facial skin.

To wash your face:

Wet your face with warm water – NO hot water, please!

Apply a mild face cleanser on your face, giving a circular motion using fingers.

Rinse your face and pat thoroughly dry.

3. Limit Makeup

The application of makeup more often can make your skin more vulnerable to acne and other skin-related problems. Makeup clogs pores and triggers outbreaks; thus, using makeup to cover pimples can worsen the situation.

However, occasional makeup is not a wrong choice. Use those cosmetic products that are non-comedogenic and fragrance-free so that your skin doesn’t become more irritated.

“Be sure to gently wash your fash once you’re done with the requirement of makeup. This is important, especially before you go to sleep at night.”

4. Limit Sun Exposure

Sun rays are helpful in terms of Vitamin D, but excessive amounts of exposure can lead to major problems in the long run. Frequent sun exposure can dehydrate the skin, producing more oil and blocking skin pores.

Wear sunscreen to protect your skin from any sun damage. Though many sunscreen products are oily, pick those that are oil-free and non-comedogenic.

5. Try Essential oils

Essential oils are a popular natural remedy for pimples. Out of several, Teatree oil is majorly used to treat acne, and it has some natural compounds that kill certain bacteria and viruses and promote acne healing.

Ideally, essential oils should not be used undiluted, but a patch test is necessary to see if it irritates your skin before their first application.

Takeaway

Everyone gets acne, and many factors cause them, such as hormones, stress, genetics, and diet. Some medications may even trigger breakouts. Prevention efforts help, but they aren’t foolproof.

Whatever pimple reduction tips you choose, patience and consistency are key. There are many good ways to prevent acne and also to manage them. For instance, eating a healthy diet, reducing stress, and not popping pimples may help mitigate and reduce their reoccurrence.
