It is natural to feel nervous while conceiving after a miscarriage. You may be worried about the complications that may affect your present pregnancy. However, you will feel better to know that many women have a healthy pregnancy and deliver healthy babies even if they have had an experience of a miscarriage earlier.

Here are some of the important things you should know to reduce the risk of repeated miscarriage.

  • Please keep in mind that repeated miscarriage is an exception, not the rule. Only 1% of the women experience two or three miscarriages in a row.
  • Most of the miscarriages are beyond your control. Still, it is always a good idea to talk to your doctor to get the best possible advice.
  • Miscarriage can break you physically as well as mentally. Take time to heal yourself entirely from your inside out.
  • Before you start trying to conceive again, discuss the timing of your subsequent pregnancy with your doctor. Some doctors advise giving a gap of 3 months to start planning for pregnancy.
  • Go for prenatal visits. Regular health check-ups are important to check the progress of body healing from miscarriage.
  • If you are a diabetic person or suffer from high blood pressure, keep such conditions under control. Ask for suitable medicines from your doctor.
  • Maintain a healthy weight by eating a nutritionally balanced diet as well as by staying physically active.

If You Have More Than One Miscarriage

If you had experienced more than one miscarriage, talk to your doctor for a complete evaluation. Your doctor may suggest a treatment for you based on your health condition. There are treatments available for several factors leading to miscarriage like hormonal imbalances and cervix abnormalities.

To rule out any further complications in pregnancy, your doctor may conduct the following tests –

a) Blood tests/ genetic tests.
b) X-ray of the uterus and fallopian tubes.
c) Hysteroscopy – viewing the inside of the uterus with a device inserted through the vagina and cervix.

Trust yourself. Many women who have had more than one miscarriage, have successfully delivered healthy babies.
