While chicken is unanimously liked, introducing it to your toddler or making them eat it can be tricky. They would either like it or would hate it instantly. If you are trying to squeeze chicken into your toddler’s diet plan, what better way than a hearty bowl of chicken soup?

Chicken is a good source of protein and iron that is essential for your toddler’s growth and development. It is also easily digestible (you can give it as soup to your baby from the 7th month) and has lots of amino acids which help in muscle growth and cognitive development of your child.

So if you are wondering how to feed chicken to your little one, here is  one of our best  chicken soup recipes that would be a sure shot hit with them.

Ingredients You Would Need for this Chicken Soup Recipe

• 250gm of chicken pieces with bone
• One bay leaf, one cinnamon stick, and two to three cloves
• 1 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
• Few peppercorns (kali mirch)
• Grated ginger ½ to 1 tsp depending on your taste preference and the climate. You can amp up the heat during winters to prevent cold and cough and keep it mild during summers.
• 4 cloves of garlic, half an onion, and some finely chopped coriander leaves
• 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder and salt as per your taste preference
• 1 teaspoon of oil or clarified butter
• Two cups of water

Steps to Make this Chicken Soup Recipe

Ensure you have everything ready before you start the process. Clean and cut the chicken into smaller pieces. Now, grind a portion of the cut onions along with the cumin seeds, peppercorn, and coriander leaves to a fine paste and keep aside.

Then, in a pressure cooker, add one teaspoon of oil or clarified butter (we personally recommend ghee as it would add to the flavour and nutritional value of the chicken soup). Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, and rest of the cumin seeds. Sauté and wait for the seeds to crackle. Then add garlic, grated ginger, and the other part of the chopped onion to it and fry till golden brown. After this, add the ground paste you prepared earlier and sauté till it is completely cooked and there is no raw smell left. At this stage, add turmeric powder and the cut chicken pieces and fry for another five minutes.

Pressure cook the chicken with two cups of water for 4-5 whistles. After the pressure is released, open and check the spices. You can either serve the soup as it is or strain it to get a clear soup depending on how your toddler prefers it. You can even add oregano to give this chicken soup recipe an Italian twist. If you want to load it with nutrition, add carrots, mushroom, and sweet corn to it.

This chicken soup recipe is mildly spiced and you can alter it a bit as per your kid’s palate and taste preference. You may even add a blob of desi ghee while serving for added flavour. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve this with garlic bread, breadsticks, or toasted bread. You can even serve it as a side dish for cooked rice.
