If you diligently follow entrepreneur and influencer Masoom Minawala’s Instagram, then you would have believed that her pregnancy was a whirlwind of couture and catwalks. However, the new mum recently opened up to a leading magazine that her pregnancy journey was like any other mum, where she acknowledged that getting used to the changes occurring within her body was a process, and it took her time to hit back into her daily routine.

Reminiscing about her pregnancy during the interview, Masoom said, “During the first thirty days, it felt like my bed was my sanctuary. But as days passed I was back to embracing life as we know it, but with an avalanche of changes, and a brand new body. She also added how her maternity changes brought a handful of changes to her life, and necessitated changes to her schedule, being mindful at all times, and eating on time, making space for rest in her calendar, and hydrating well to help keep a balanced mood.

Ahead, we break down her pregnancy routine, including skincare, fitness, and wellness, and share the three mantras that helped her maintain good health throughout the nine months.

On Her Skincare Routine During Pregnancy

While Minawala enjoyed a radiant and lit-from-within maternity glow, she ensured to maintain the basics of essential skincare during this time. The influencer shared that she never skipped double-cleansing her skin, and relied on homemade face masks to boost her skin health and glow. She also said that hydration remained her top priority, and added, “I would often find myself hydrating more than usual.”

Massom also added that it is important to visit your dermatologist regularly to rule out the possibility of any allergic reactions due to skincare products during pregnancy.

Other skincare tips that you can follow during pregnancy:

  • Exfoliating once a week
  • Using a face toner regularly to balance your skin’s pH value
  • Adding a face serum to target your pregnancy skin woes
  • Moisturising regularly
  • Protecting your skin against the sun by applying SPF daily

On Her Fitness Routine During Pregnancy

Massom acknowledged that pregnancy was the time of her life when she started valuing and respecting her body more than ever and practiced physical activity as a way of her giving back to her body. She revealed, “I practiced prenatal yoga regularly to unwind, rewind, and remind my body of its capabilities, and feel more in sync with the changes happening inside.” She also added that every time she had a work call, she would get her steps in by walking. These simple physical movements helped boost her energy levels, and also alleviated the aches and pains that she was experiencing.

In fact, research conducted by the National Library of Medicine found that exercise during pregnancy can also help reduce swelling in your body, aid in better sleep, and lower the risk of gestational diabetes and shortened labour. So as long as you have a go-ahead from your doctor, continue to indulge in pregnancy-safe exercises or simple activities like walking to keep your body moving and ensure a healthy pregnancy.

On Her Wellness Routine During Pregnancy

While mums-to-be are often stuck with a free flow of advice, a notion that really stuck with Massom was that her mental well-being during pregnancy could have a deep impact on her baby. She said, “It is impossible to be in a positive state perpetually, so my goal was to be as neutral or balanced as possible.”

She recounted that activities like having a routine, working on exciting projects, spending time with her family and friends, reading, dancing, chasing goals, and work travels brought her immense happiness, and hence, she ensured that her routine had ample space for them. In addition to this, she also fortified her mental health with daily affirmations, meditation, journalling, and Om Chanting. According to experts, these mindful practices can also help mums-to-be adapt to their bodily changes better and boost their mood.

On Her Postpartum Journey

Talking about her postpartum journey, Masoom shares, “With my body recovering, just dealing with the fatigue and getting used to being a new mum, takes a significant amount of energy.” She added that while her journey back to normalcy is punctuated by mood swings, hormonal changes, anxiety, and physical pain and changes, he is focused on taking the challenges one day at a time.”

When asked if she has any advice for new mums, Masoom responded, “I am the new mum, I need the advice.” But she did have an essential reminder of gratitude to pass on to new mums, and said, “Take every minute to be thankful for what you and your body have created. Cut yourself some slack, and enjoy this victory.

As Masoom stated, your pregnancy routine should include activities that uplift your health and also your overall well-being. Focus on mindfullness, take prenatal yoga classes, have all your meals on time, and most importantly, remember to rest as much as you can.
