When our children are less than 5 years of age, their levels of immunity are low as compared to us, therefore they need extra care and protection from seasonal changes and diseases which come along. It's even worse for mothers as we tend to sink in our;MOMMY GUILT;as soon as we see our precious in pain.
Recently my son had fallen sick for a very long time and it compelled me to collectively write this post so that any mother who is as freakingly concerned about her child safety as I am (yet these babies find out ways to bump into accidents) should prevent such events or get a cure in case of mishap.
Common Cold & Cough
1. Ginger and honey
Grate half an inch of ginger and add a spoonful of honey and mix well. Give this mixture to your kids whenever they have severe cough.
In a pan, take one spoon of peppercorns & 2 spoonful of cumin. Roast& grind. In a saucepan, add a glass of water, a spoon of this powder along with jaggery and give it a good boil. Feed this concoction warm to help your kids’ combat cold. Keep rest of the powder for next timeBasil (Tulsi) & Pepper
3. Turmeric milk
Boil 1 glass of milk, a pinch of turmeric powder (if you can get raw turmeric it's the best) and get it to a boil. Add sugar or honey and give it to your
kids twice a day.
4. Steam nebulization
If you have a new born use a normal vaporiser while you breast feed your baby, cover yourself up with a sheet so that baby can inhale those vapours. For more effective results add a pinch of celery (ajwain)seeds.
5. Basil (Tulsi) Ginger and honey paste
Grind a few tulsi leaves to get 1 teaspoon of juice, add 3 to 4 drops of ginger juice and 1 table spoon of honey
Make a paste by grinding one jaifal with water and make a paste (you can even grate it in pestle).
Apply this paste on your baby's chest, palms, back and forehead and just a little on the tip of nose.
7. Warm water
Warm water losens the mucous formation and gives relief in the inflammation of the throat region due to coughing.
8. Nasal spray/ Saline drops
Use them atleast thrice a day or as required to keep congestion away
Basil is one of the most versatile plants known. You can give 4 to 5 drops of basil juice with honey or add to tour baby's milk for immunity. It also woks as a good anti allergen and anti biotic like turmeric.
9. Warm orange juice
As weird it may sound, but vitamin C cuts out cough and phlegm from body. Orange juice diluted a little with warm water naturally helps fighting cough and soothe the nasal tract.
10. Fig Water
Boil 6 to 7 dried figs and filter off the water, give 4 to 5 spoons at least 6 times a day to fight acute cough and wheezing.
11. Garlic and mustard oil
Warm 2 tablespoons of mustard oil in a pan (don't boil) add 2 garlic gloves and warm till they're golden brown, filter out and apply luke warm oil to baby's head, forehead, chest and feet. This helps in cutting cough and congestion. Do it twice a day when baby sleeps.[caption width="627"]Image from web[/caption]
12. Warm clothes
Keep your kids sufficiently covered of the weather is cold.. use protective caps, warm liners, socks etc. If you are a breast feeding mother, its suggestive you shouldn't eat anything cold either.
Bodies of children up to the age of 2 years are not able to regulate their temperature as efficiently as a grown up kid, so always make your baby wear 1 layer extra than you would do at a given time.
Lastly, when my son got severe infection and Eiosinophillia due to cold weather, his fever wasnt reducing at all... I; was adviced to keep the room warm and dust free, also when the room is kept warm, you can wipe your child's whole body with warm water to reduce the fever until the temperature returns to normal. Because you should avoid giving paracetamol more than 6 times a day #homeremedies #naturalremedy #coughandcold #fever
