Q:

Hello. I am 25 weeks pregnant now. I had anomaly scan at around 20-21 weeks. The baby is normal, everything else is fine except short cervix. My cervix length shown was 2.3 cm in the sonography report. Dr. then said that it's not the problem because internal os is closed. But I searched on the internet I found the the ladies with short cervix are given progesterone or done cervical enlargement. But I was not given anything. Today at 25 weeks I went to my doctor I again asked about short cervix. She said nothing can be done for it now. She was in lot of hurry to finish off seeing the patients she didn't told me that it's ok or not. Didn't suggested of any sonography. Just gave another appointment date. I am so worried that premature delivery may happen. Please suggest what to do. Whether to take second opinion or to change the doctor. Did it happen with anyone else here? Can a lady with so short or shorter cervix reach to full term with or without any treatment? What type of treatment can be done at this stage?

It is very early to worry about these things. your body is perfectly capable of growing a baby. enjoy

Hi, don't worry , the cut off is 2.5 cm.It is slightly small. But as internal OS is closed. So no need to worry.Cervical length will improve as the weeks are progressing. But try not to do exercises except breathing exs n ankle toe movements. I had seen cases where cervical length was improved as the weeks progressed..relax..

Please don't keep running for sonographies, only 2 are recommended.

Is it ok to walk in case of cervical shortness? If yes then what should be the time limit? If I walk for more than 15 minutes I feel heaviness in my tummy.

You are not in any danger cervix is closed, enjoy yourself. bed rest is not advised it has been shown to create more problems. gentle exercise daily. your body needs to be strong. can I suggest u do yoga and hypnobirthing. relax and be calm for yourself and your baby.

Happy to know that you have been quite vigilant! yes you are right. the cervix is short as per this report. what I would do is to check it out once again and corroborate with physical findings. if all the tests are within range then keep u under observation. cervical encerclage, progesterone supplementation and uterine relaxants are usually the standard medical interventions in such cases. I would advice you to talk to your doctor about these.

I went through the cervix operation in 18 weeks , as per my doctor after 20 week is too late for operation so better u take bed rest

I lost my baby due to short cervix in 6th mth. but one of my friend deliver her baby full term. so now u just hv to be positive n tKe complete bed rest. bed must be elevated from ur leg side. n no walking not eating anything heavy.

there is no solution other then complete bed rest . as its too late to put cervical stiches.

avoid visiting dr. again n again . d more u get exert d more will be d changes of preterm.

take in a lot of protein n liquid like sprouts n nariyal Pani that helped me big time n bed rest is de must to increase the cervix length

plz rest a lot....a stich was important. .hope u n baby will be fine...literally dnt get outa bed..

Hi Amita.. I hope you had your delivery on time without any complications.. Best wishes..
